Surveying the VillageConstruction surveying for a project to renovate the Saratoga Village parking district and the water quality in Saratoga Creek kicked off on Feb. 18. The project will feature a new public restroom, the installation of additional electric car chargers and new lidded trash enclosures, while also eliminating about 37 parking spaces in the city’s downtown.

The town of Los Gatos will fund legal defense for Vice Mayor Rob Moore and council member Maria Ristow after weeks of closed session meetings discussing the matter. Lynley Kerr Hogan, a local activist known for her involvement with a far-right group that disrupted local meetings for months in 2021, sued Moore, Ristow and Los Gatos resident Lee Fagot on Nov. 14, alleging that they conspired to defame her and keep her from attending the regular meetings of the local group Democracy Tent.

The winds that blew through the Santa Cruz Mountains sounded like a jet engine the night that Sarah Johnston watched a tree erupt into flames from the window of her Aldercroft Heights home. It was around 3 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2020, and hundreds of lightning strikes had begun raining down on the region, sparking fires across San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties. It was the start of the more than 86,000-acre CZU Lightning Complex Fire that would burn for weeks and destroy nearly 1,500 buildings.
