Thirty learners have been rushed to Gelukspan Hospital near Lichtenburg in North West with minor injuries after a collision involving their bus and a minibus taxi. Both vehicles were carrying a total of 80 learners. The Department of Community Safety says learners from the RA Kobue Secondary School were rushed to Mahikeng Provincial Hospital. The department says 65 learners were in the bus and 15 in the taxi.

A large contingent of police have been deployed to Ipelegeng Township in Schweizer Reneke in the North West, following the outbreak of violent confrontations between two rival gangs. The gangs, using names similar to acronyms of police units, have reportedly been clashing in the area. Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Patrick Asaneng has deployed different police units to prevent an escalation of violence between the TRT and the Hawks Patrollers gangs.

Two men suspected of the rape, kidnapping and killing of 43-year-old Motlalepule Kau, are expected to appear at the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court in North West. The duo was arrested on Saturday, after police discovered Kau’s body burried in a shallow grave in the bushes between Tlakgameng and Kudunkgwane Villages. Kau was reported missing last Wednesday at Mahikeng Police Station and her body was discovered a day later.

Police have refuted claims that they are not willing to admit to hospital the recently resurfaced illegal mineworkers in Stilfontein, North West. The Stilfontein Solidarity Committee earlier released a statement saying some illegal miners who were recently retrieved need immediate healthcare and should not be in police custody. VIDEO | Police confirmed last week that all illegal miners were successfully evacuated.
