An investigation into a domestic dispute in Clay City Sunday evening ends in arrest and several charges, including battery of a public safety officer. A Brazil woman was arrested on a warrant, or writ of body attachment, involving the death of a young child in May 2024. Hailynn N. Volpatti, 25, was arrested and transported to the Clay County Justice Center around 7 p.m. and remanded into the custody of the jail staff. Volpatti was initially charged with a level one felony of Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death.

Several Clay Community School Board of Trustees members said their favorite times at Thursday's regular monthly sessions are the various school review reports made throughout the school year. "I always look forward to these," said board members Cheryl Schopmeyer and Charley Jackson at Thursday's October 10th meeting. Van Buren Elementary Principal Derick Tipton thanked the school board for inviting him to highlight what is happening at the elementary school this year.

The 2024 Bridge Festival traffic started last Friday, but on Saturday, October 12th, many people traveled along the route that goes through Clay County to several communities involved in the annual Parke County festival. One local and traveler favorite stop is just north of the intersection at US 40 and State Road 59, Launch Academy. The school has a year sale each year in support of the school.

A special anniversary. At 10:54 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2023, Clay County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from Cloverleaf Health Center in Knightsville reporting a fire. First responders from multiple agencies, nursing home staff, and community members immediately sprung into action. All with one goal: to ensure the 71 residents and facility were safe. Clay Community School Transportation Department, many family members of the residents, and community members offered to help, to name a few.
