BLOUNTVILLE — Dobyns-Bennett senior Caroline Hill has a to-do list on her bedroom wall — a list which keeps getting shorter with all the Lady Indians have accomplished this season. The District 1-4A tournament Most Valuable Player can check winning a district tournament off that list as of Monday night.

BLOUNTVILLE — Science Hill coach Jon Higgins isn’t as concerned about making a run as he is withstanding a run. The Hilltoppers did both Saturday, and they needed it. After sweeping Dobyns-Bennett during the regular season, Science Hill fought past the Indians in double overtime 65-61 in the District 1-4A semifinals at the Evelyn Rafalowski Athletic Complex. It was only the second postseason game between Tennessee’s oldest high school basketball rivals to go past regulation.

BLOUNTVILLE — Daniel Boone coach John Good struggled to remember who scored in double figures. But rest assured, that’s a good thing. The No. 2 seed Lady Trailblazers came out firing in the third quarter and controlled the rest of the game, taking down No. 3 West Ridge 61-52 in the District 1-4A semifinal round at the Evelyn Rafalowski Athletic Complex. For the record, it was Kyleigh Bacon, Lillie Walters and Andrea Flores who cracked double digits for Daniel Boone (16-12).

But for the first time ever, the Lady Pioneers went undefeated in district play. Their 75-46 win at Tennessee High on Feb.

Dobyns-Bennett wrestlers Jake Dempsey and Garrett Crowder have displayed all season why their teammates voted them captains. Both qualified for state in 2023, and they’re surely favorites to return to this year’s TSSAA individual state championships at the Williamson County Expo Center in Franklin. In fact, Crowder finished state runner-up in the 220-pound division. Now a member of the new 215-pound weight class, Crowder has amassed a 37-4 record this season. At 190 pounds, Dempsey has gone 36-7.
