    Downtown merchants and building owners learned more about the upcoming sidewalk replacement project during a meeting this past week. Will Denton, engineer, who works primarily for the Light, Gas and Water Department but does other city projects as well, reiterated that the work is slated to begin June 1 or earlier, if possible. It could take several months to complete, he said, because the work will be done in sections in front of individual businesses rather than all at once.

    Dog lovers got a bonus this past week with not one, but two, pet service businesses formally opening. Both The Houndstongue Pet Hotel and The Good Dog Grooming held joint ribbon-cutting ceremonies this past Wednesday. The Good Dog Grooming, owned by Claudia Hill, has space in The Houndstongue Pet Hotel building owned by Anna Frances Ballard. Ballard said the unusual business name was suggested by her husband, who is an owner of Camp Creek Native Plants.

    A New Albany resident believes he might not be alive today were it not for the quick action of a young neighbor. Biff Yelensky was in his yard on Green Willow Cove during the late afternoon April 15 when he suffered a medical emergency rendering him unconscious. Seven-year-old Cade Geyer, a student at New Albany Elementary School, found Yelensky and rather than panicking, took action. “Young Cade checked Mr. Yelenski while his mother dialed 911 and requested help,” Fire Chief Mark Whiteside said.
