A 27-year-old man from Sioux Falls drowned Friday in the James River northeast of Mitchell. Davison County Sheriff Steve Harr says the Mitchell dispatch center received a call around 4:15 pm Friday of a possible drowning, which prompted a response from numerous organizations… Your browser does not support the audio element. Two graduates of James Valley Drug and DUI Court shared their journeys of battling the demons of addiction and ultimately changing their lives for the better during Thursday’s celebration of recovery. Now, the team of Kern Parce and John Peterson are spreading their experiences and message of hope with others. Parce started consuming alcohol at the age of 12 eventually leading to methamphetamine. He was able to hide this dark side while excelling in other activities. But he needed to change.

190 Dakota Wesleyan University students were granted degrees during Sunday afternoon’s commencement at the Corn Palace. 1987 DWU graduate and former educator Terry Nebelsick delivered the commencement address, “On This Solid Rock.” He challenged the Class of 2025 with the words of John Wesley. “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, for as long as you can,” said Nebelsick.

For the first time in four years Mitchell Technical College is bumping its tuition. Chief Financial Officer Jared Hofer outlined the increases for the Mitchell School Board. “Overall, that’s a ten-dollar increase in fees to our students, or ten-dollars per credit hour,” Hofer said. “So, our average cost will be going from $240 to about $250 a credit hour.”South Dakota technical colleges are getting a 1.25 percent increase in funding which the legislature agreed to earlier this year.
