Osteoporosis is a growing public health concern globally, with hip fractures being associated with the highest costs and mortality among all osteoporotic fractures (1-4). The number of hip fractures is projected to double by 2050 globally (5). In Australia, the absolute number of hip fractures increased by 20% between 2012 and 2017, with a 1-year mortality rate of 25% over this period (6).
