CHICAGO – There's not much excitement at Rate Field most days. Tim Elko's walk-off on Thursday provided some for the 11,630 in attendance. But the White Sox are still just 20-43. Summer weather has arrived late, if at all. Attendance is down so much that fans who buy upper-deck seats are redirected to the 100-level during many games.

CHICAGO — Changes are coming to the south side, but how soon? When reading the White Sox news release on Thursday — an announcement that Jerry Reinsdorf, 89, who’s owned the team since 1981, and billionaire Justin Ishbia, a part majority owner of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, have reached a long-term investment agreement — that was my initial reaction. In simplest terms, the agreement allows Reinsdorf to sell controlling interest of the team at any point from 2029-33.

CHICAGO – Tim Elko acknowledged some of his at-bats on Thursday against the Tigers weren't his best. He struck out three times in his first four, chasing breaking balls out of the zone and watching a fastball land for strike three. But all that really mattered was his fifth at-bat. Austin Slater set the table for Elko in the tenth inning by bunting runners over to second and third base with one out.

CHICAGO – The White Sox are in need of pitchers who can cover multiple innings after starter Jonathan Cannon hit the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a lower back strain. One candidate is Owen White, who the team called up from Triple-A Charlotte ahead of Thursday's game against the Tigers. In a corresponding move, right-hander Caleb Freeman was optioned. White, a 6-foot-3 right-hander, has made nine starts for the Knights this season, posting a 5.24 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP across 44.2 innings.
