More than 90 recently listed AFL players have already found new homes since either retiring or being delisted at the end of the 2024 season. Eight of those players have secured career lifelines at other clubs, while a further five stand a chance to find a new AFL club via the summer's Supplemental Selection Period as train-on prospects. The VFL has already recruited close to 30 players straight out of the AFL this year, while the WAFL and SANFL have over 10 each so far.

A Qantas flight from Sydney to Wellington has turned around after reports of an “unusual smell in the cabin”. QF163 departed Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport for Wellington International Airport in New Zealand just before 6.45pm on Wednesday before turning back about an hour later.

Mason Cox, Lachie Schultz, Harvey Harrison, Jack Bytel and Wil Parker have all come into the team, with Nathan Kreuger (concussion), Reef McInnes (omitted), Lachlan Sullivan (omitted), Oleg Markov (personal) and Joe Richards (omitted) making way. The Magpies’ three emergencies for the clash are Billy Frampton, Lachlan Sullivan and Oleg Markov.

The final team, including three emergencies, will be selected from the extended squad and named at 5pm on Friday.
