Two big announcements this morning: Council Member Paige Ellis will run for a third term in City Council District 8 next year AND former EMS Association president Selena Xie will challenge her for the position. Ellis's second term goes through next year. If she wants to exceed the two-term limit, she'll need to gather signatures from 5% of the 67,918 "qualified voters" in her district, which by my count = 3,395 signatures.

— 3 min read Over on the City Council message board CM Marc Duchen has an idea for preserving affordable housing. He points to a fund launched by the city of Dallas "that helps preserve older, low rent market-rate housing, or 'naturally occurring affordable housing.'"The Dallas Housing Opportunity Fund was started in 2021 with $6 million of seed money from the city of Dallas but has since attracted tens of millions of dollars in private investment.

— 4 min read Today City Council is voting on a resolution to consider changes to DB90, the density bonus program that allows apartment projects to go up to 90 feet if 10-12% of the units are priced for low-income households. The resolution was very likely prompted by unease over the Acacia Cliffs redevelopment, where an old 250-unit apartment complex in Northwest Hills is being replaced by a 650-700 unit complex that will of course be much more expensive.
