Jewish Voice for Peace Santa Barbara protested an Israeli dance company’s performance in downtown Santa Barbara on Feb. 25 due to its financial backing from Israeli politicians, among other private sources. Protestors claimed the dance troupe engaged in “art-washing” Israel’s policies and recent actions in the Middle East. The performance was put on by Batsheva Dance Company, which originates from Tel Aviv, Israel, and is funded by the state of Israel.

UC Santa Barbara’s Southeast Asian Union hosted a look-alike competition of musician Beabadoobee on Jan. 25 at the Lagoon Lawn. Fifteen Beabadoobee look-alikes competed for flowers and the latest Beabadoobee CD as part of a nationwide trend of celebrity look-alike contests. Beabadoobee, or Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus, is a Filipino-British singer-songwriter with indie hit songs like “Real Man” or “The Perfect Pair” and over 25 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Thriftopia hosted “Youtopia” on Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Isla Vista Community Center and People’s Park. The event featured a variety of vendors with vintage clothing for $30 or under, a farmers market, a fix-it fair for damaged items, live music and an art walk.
