Many of them had received low grades from the state for years, and all were under-attended, a symptom of the lopsided enrollment numbers — largely caused by Florida’s school-choice push — that led the district to redesign those boundaries. But all of the schools are still owned by the district.

Two Hillsborough County schools will have new principals starting next week after school board members confirmed their appointments Tuesday. Sarah Caldwell will be the new principal at Walker Middle School in Odessa. Caldwell, 42, was previously an assistant principal at Hammond Elementary. She was also an assistant principal at Walker from 2018 to 2023. She has worked for the school district since 2010. Michelle Perez will take over as principal at Morgan Woods Elementary School in Town ‘N’ Country.
