Nathaniel Dye is one of the 33 per cent of cancer patients who have had to wait longer than the 62-day target for treatment after an urgent GP referral. The music teacher from Essex was only 36 when he was given a diagnosis of stage-four bowel cancer but had to wait more than 100 days before receiving treatment. Nathaniel described the wait as “100 days in hell” and said the delay to find out if he had cancer was “harrowing”.

Posing as parents of teenagers who were overseas students studying at British boarding schools, they approached the admissions departments of top Russell Group universities directly as well as some of the leading recruitment firms representing these institutions.
