RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The father of a teenager accused in a 2022 mass shooting in North Carolina’s capital city that left five people dead pleaded guilty Wednesday to storing improperly a handgun that authorities said was found with his son after the shootings. Alan Thompson, 61, appeared to cry as he entered the plea to the misdemeanor charge in Wake County court, news outlets reported.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers will be without wide receiver Adam Thielen for at least four weeks after the veteran was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a hamstring injury. Thielen was injured while extending to make a diving touchdown catch near the end of the second quarter of Carolina’s 36-22 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The 34-year-old did not return in the second half.

UpdateOfficer Kenneth Kludy has been discharged from the hospital following serious injuries that were sustained during a shooting between him, Officer Joshua Heater and a suspect, identified as 37-year-old Nelson Reyes. On September 24, Reyes succumbed to his injuries that he sustained and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Officer Kludy and Officer Heater have been placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting investigation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 13-year-old Kennedy Middle School student was taken into custody after brandishing a firearm to a student on a school bus, according to CMPD. CMPD states on September 24, the Kennedy Middle School Resource Officer was notified of a student carrying a firearm in his backpack. The SRO says he found the student and separated him from the firearm before the juvenile was taken into custody after additional officers responded to the scene.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – On September 20, at approximately 4:00 pm, Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement received a call from the 2300 block of County Line Road Kings Mountain, NC in reference to a deceased raccoon found in the resident’s yard, possibly killed by one of the family dogs. There was no human contact with the raccoon and the animal owner did not witness the four family dogs have any interaction with the raccoon.
