Hillsborough deputies are investigating a shooting in Lake Magdalene Thursday that left a man dead and a woman injured. Deputies arrived at a home in the 500 block of Jeanal Place shortly after midnight following reports of a shooting shortly after midnight, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. They found a woman outside the home with lower body injuries and a man dead inside with upper body trauma.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man who was in custody at the Falkenburg Road Jail. John Robert Esler, 71, was found in medical distress inside his cell Monday shortly before 11 p.m., according to a sheriff’s office news release. Esler was taken to the jail’s medical unit before being moved to Tampa General Hospital. His condition worsened the next morning, and he was pronounced dead about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

A Tampa man accused of shooting into a car with a child in the backseat and killing a man in Progress Village last week was arrested Monday. Hillsborough deputies arrested Dayjon Octavious Clarke, 24, in connection to the death of 24-year-old Terrel Ferrell. Deputies responded about 4 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

A Tampa motorcyclist was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by 13 years of probation after being found guilty of vehicular homicide in the death of a 13-year-old boy at a street racing event in St. Petersburg. More than a month after jurors decided Carlos Fernandez, 23, acted recklessly when he drove faster than 88 mph and struck Ethan Julio Martin, a Pinellas judge handed down a penalty that was a departure from sentencing guidelines that recommended at least 11 years in prison.

The first homicide occurred about 4 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Progress Boulevard and South 82nd Street, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived to find a man in the passenger seat of a car with gunshot wounds to his upper body.
