    The city of Rogers is introducing a new way for residents and visitors to explore the city. The Summer Badge Passport Challenge encourages people to experience five areas of Rogers and share those experiences. Participants can receive up to five physical badges and possibly a grand prize at the end of the summer. Ozarks at Large’s Jack Travis spoke with Rogers Trails Coordinator Kara King about the program yesterday.

    The Cave Springs community will again gather at the Illinois River Watershed Partnership sanctuary to celebrate the second annual Bats and Bluegrass festival Saturday, July 19. The event will feature live bluegrass music from The Sons of Otis Malone, food trucks, educational activities, hikes and, of course, bats. Proceeds from Bats and Bluegrass directly fund the watershed partnership and the work staff do to restore and protect local and regional waterways.

    In the Ozark National Forest, just west of Fayetteville, cabins at Lake Wedington Recreation Area have been standing since the days of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s. But time — and a few Arkansas storms — have taken their toll on these structures. Now, generations of workers and partner organizations are coming together to help bring them back to life on a rainy day in early May. On the roof of Cabin 7, 17-year-old Cameron Hults carefully balances as he nails in new shingles.
