Four years after moving in, education curriculum developer Great Minds has vacated its Richmond headquarters, leaving the nearly 19,000-square-foot building and its resident T-rex skeleton up for grabs. A ghost kitchen near Willow Lawn is going dark after two years. ChefSuite, which leases kitchen space to to-go restaurant concepts at 4711 W. Broad St., will close at the end of July. “ChefSuite is currently in a transition phase at our Richmond location, with operations winding down in their current form by the end of July,” ChefSuite CIO and co-founder Jarnail Tucker said in a statement last week.

Three local software developers are getting the ball rolling on a new sports-based startup. Sheikh Uddin, Mahir Rahman and Prakash Chatlani last month launched Pickup, an app for users to schedule and join in on local-to-Richmond pickup sports games. Uddin, Rahman and Chatlani, who serve as Pickup’s CEO, CTO and CIO, respectively, are friends and fellow computer science graduates from VCU. They work together at Henrico-based Kinsale Insurance and have been developing Pickup on the side.

A city-based salon is expanding out to Short Pump for its third location. Avenue 42 Salon, which currently has spots at 16 E. Main St. and 5803 Patterson Ave., is moving into a 2,000-square-foot location at 2225 Old Brick Road in West Broad Village. Owner Natalie Gordon founded Avenue 42 on East Main Street in 2012. She opened the Patterson location in 2023. She started Avenue 42 as a bridal-focused salon, and as popularity grew, expanded to a full-service salon.

Arts & Letters worked on a new campaign for financial tech company Ramp. The campaign includes a series of ads that are running on social media, broadcast and streaming, directed by Jara Moravec of Los Angeles-based ProdCo. A second phase of the campaign will launch in September. Owen Design Co. received an “Award of Excellence” at the 31st annual Communicator Awards by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts.

A new Richmond startup is looking to bring some cost-saving measures to a niche part of real estate accounting. Segtax, founded by Gregory DiNardo and Joe Acanfora, publicly launched last week as a software tool designed to automate cost segregation studies, which help real estate owners and investors calculate depreciation on a property and, specifically, its contents. Cost segregation studies identify assets within real estate that can be accelerated for depreciation.

A Goochland County equipment repair company is expanding its footprint with a move to a soon-to-be-completed industrial park. R-Tec Services, which is currently located at 2345 Lanier Road in Rockville, is planning to relocate to the upcoming Pony Farm Industrial Park, set to span around 84 acres across both Goochland and Hanover counties.
