With neighboring Sheridan full of quality pool players, four Buffalo players felt particular pressure to represent their city at the Amusement and Music Operators of Wyoming pool championship in Casper this year, player Tyler Young said. The team, which included Young and his brother Colter Young, Richard Griffith and Seth Rosenthal, took first place in the bronze division. Buffalo and Sheridan players have had a longstanding rivalry, Tyler Young said. “We kind of had something to prove,” he said.

After months of work, New West High School students are now seeing the fruits of their labor after harvesting the first few batches of salad greens from the school’s hydroponic gardening system. The work that students, English teacher and Principal Mike Hanson and science teacher Tara Hall put in to get the system operational was part of a literacy in environmental science class, though the gardening system touches more than one class. The setup process was extensive.

Johnson County School District No. 1 will test drive an updated smart device policy starting the week after spring break. As outlined in the policy recommendation adopted March 10 by school board trustees, the district will temporarily adopt a policy that would prohibit smart device use, such as cellphones and smart watches, for all K-12th grade students, with high school students permitted to have smart devices during lunch.

BUFFALO — Buffalo High School is the first high school to offer a new Commercial Driver’s License course through Sheridan College, and that was intentional, instructor Joe Bennett said. Bennett has 26 years of experience driving commercial vehicles, delivering for Coca-Cola, hauling oversized loads for oil fields, working as a mover and driving plow trucks and road painters for the Wyoming Department of Transportation. He knew he wanted BHS to be the first school to offer it, he said.
