The Cougars are adding a Bear to the fold. Bear Bachmeier is transferring to Stanford to BYU, ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported Saturday morning. Former Stanford QB Bear Bachmeier has committed to BYU, he tells ESPN. BYU’s defensive line just got even bigger. Former Oklahoma State defensive tackle Justin Kirkland has transferred to the Cougars, he announced Thursday via social media. The 6-foot-3, 335-pound Utah native appeared in all 12 games for the Cowboys in 2024, ending the campaign as the team’s third-highest rated defensive player with a 70.8 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. A familiar face is joining BYU's 2025-26 roster. Idaho forward Tyler Mrus has transferred to the Cougars, he announced Thursday via social media. Mrus averaged 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds across 31 contests for the Vandals as a sophomore, making 38% of his shots from 3-point range. Against BYU on Nov. 16, Mrus scored 17 points and made four 3-pointers. Idaho Vandals redshirt sophomore Tyler Mrus is still available in the transfer portal.

For the second time in the past year, Jaren Hall is looking for a new NFL home. The former BYU quarterback has been waived by the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced Tuesday. Seahawks waived quarterback Jaren Hall, linebacker Michael Dowell, center Michael Novitsky and outside linebacker Kenneth Odumegwu. - Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 29, 2025Hall's release comes after Seattle selected Alabama QB Jalen Milroe in the third round of this past week's NFL draft.

BYU has a new face in its wide receiver room. Transfer pass-catcher Reggie Frischknecht has committed to the Cougars, he announced Tuesday via social media. Frischknecht spent the 2024 campaign at Snow College, where he caught 38 passes for 740 yards and 14 touchdowns as a true freshman. He then transferred to Weber State in January, spending spring ball with the program before entering the portal again last week.

Brian Santiago has helped get a lot done at BYU, especially in the last few years. He was Tom Holmoe’s right hand man for a reason. The hire makes sense and honestly felt inevitable. It’ll be interesting and exciting to see how this new era of Cougar athletics unfolds.
