This comes after learning their police department is staying put for the time being. “I mean, I’m just devastated. It’s hard to fathom this community without, you know, local policing,” Melissa Paderick of Snow Hill said. That was a common feeling in Snow Hill Wednesday, May 28th after commissioners voted to eliminate the police department.

This comes weeks after talks about the potential change. Earlier in May, town leaders announced the possibility of eliminating the department. The vote was 3-2 to dissolve the department and approve a contract with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. This would mean the sheriff’s office will provide the law enforcement and protection in the town.
