USC reveals monument honoring desegregation trailblazers

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — On Friday, the University of South Carolina held a desegregation monument ceremony. The university memorialized three students who desegregated the campus at 10 am in front of the McKissick Museum. The 12-foot bronze monument was inspired by the iconic photograph of Robert Anderson, Henrie Monteith Treadwell, and James Solomon Jr. as they entered the schools administration building on September 11, 1963. The monument was created by Georgia-based sculptor Basil Watson.
Richland county's Hopkins pool expected to reopen with new look and improved safety

They’re making a splash in Lower Richland county. The Hopkins community pool is officially re-opening. It became a bit of a controversy last year when the facility abruptly closed and people took their concerns straight to local leaders. A year later, they’re back in business. "After the pool is made we're going to have our senior citizen pool party", said Bernice Scott, a community activist.

Authorities identified 34 year old Ashley Brown just days after the crash, after police were chasing an accused killer on the run. Brown was killed on April 8 2024, just one day before her birthday, and about a few months away from giving birth to a new baby.

According to local authorities, the woman who was killed in a crash on north main street Monday evening, was 35 year-old Ashley Brown. According to a friend, Brown was going to turn 36 on Tuesday. She was also just days away from celebrating a baby shower and was due to give birth this summer. “She was full of spirt", said Roger Brasley. "She was very outgoing, very outspoken.”Brasley says he was excited about celebrating her 36th birthday Tuesday, and the birth of her son in a few months.

South Carolina students celebrate historic undefeated championship with victory swim

It's a party in Columbia Sunday night! On campus in Columbia, as hundreds of South Carolina students commemorate the victory by taking the plunge in the Thomas Cooper fountain. "It's a little chilly, but it was worth it", said South Carolina Freshman, Grace Kenderdine. The campus celebrating the gamecock women's basketball team’s third championship, beating Iowa for the title, a year after the Hawkeyes eliminated them from the 2023 final four. This title has a different ring to it.
