There are calls for new speed signs outside schools to be changed, with concerns some are over complicated and incorrect. The signs were being rolled out as part of a wider suite of changes from the Government, reversing speed limit reductions that were introduced after 2019 on local streets, arterial roads and state highways. The changes affected roads outside schools too where variable speed limits were being implemented, meaning lower speed limits during pick up and drop off times.

It's been a busy few weeks for the Brothers Beer Brewery in Auckland, making and packing as much beer as they can — to send to China. "Our last China order is literally double in size," manager Dylan Adams told 1News. "It's gone from one 40ft container to two and, you know, we get those orders pretty regularly."The US was a big export competitor for beer makers here, but the price of American products has skyrocketed because of the recent tariff stand-off.

The 16-year-old accused of murdering American PhD student Kyle Whorrall at a bus stop in Auckland's St Johns has pleaded not guilty. He also denied a charge of aggravated robbery. A 32-year-old woman who’s also been charged in relation to Whorrall’s death, charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, also pleaded not guilty. Both keep interim name suppression for now. They’ve been remanded in custody to reappear in the High Court in Auckland for a case review hearing on July 16.

People may have seen them driving around – cars fitted out with cameras, patrolling streets with parking limits. Auckland Transport now has a fleet of 23 of these cars – two more are set to join that fleet shortly. The organisation's parking compliance manager Rick Bidgood says its the biggest fleet in the Southern Hemisphere. "I have to keep up with the expansion of Auckland," he told 1News.

A second person has appeared in court charged with inappropriate handling of human remains and obtaining more than $18,000 by deception. The 53-year-old denied all charges and has elected trial by jury when he made his his first appearance in Auckland District Court today. Court documents show the Auckland man faces two charges of obtaining money by deception, amounting to more than $18,000, between 2015 and 2022. He also faces a charge of neglecting to properly seal and line a casket.
