MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Construction on Victory Drive has been delayed due to the heavy rain and flooding Mankato received earlier in the summer. Originally set to be finished on August 23rd, the project will now be delayed by at least one week but could continue past Labor Day and the start of school year. Officials are working with district officials to come up with a plan if construction continues past the initial one week delay.

NEW ULM, Minn. (KEYC) - The city of New Ulm has closed the large dog section of their dog park in order to build a new shelter. The process is already underway with a concrete slab installed Tuesday. Supported by the Realtors Association of Southern Minnesota, the project will cost over 15 thousand dollar and take 30 to 40 days to complete.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Greater Mankato Area United Way is hosting a region wide back to school supplies drive. The group is looking for colored pencils, markers, glue sticks, whiteboard markers, erasers, backpacks and any other school supplies. Community Impact Director Sarah Buesing says backpacks are the item they are in need of the most. “You know getting papers and items from school to home and home to school, it’s really important so that they don’t lose anything,” Buesing said.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Salvation Army will be hosting a Back to School Community Fair on Thursday from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M.At the fair, the Salvation Army will be giving out lunches, backpacks, shoes, and family thrift store vouchers to low-income families with children in Kindergarten to 12th grade in Blue Earth County and North Mankato. It will be located at the Salvation Army’s youth center at 700 S Riverfront Dr in Mankato.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Mankato held it’s final Songs on the Lawn performance of the summer. The event featured 3 Hour Download, A local Mankato band which covers 90s and 2000s songs. Their performance was originally set for June 20th but had to be rescheduled due to the weather. Audience member Nadia Wogen spoke about the summer event. “And very community like based,” Wogen said.
