Construction on Victory Drive delayed

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Construction on Victory Drive has been delayed due to the heavy rain and flooding Mankato received earlier in the summer. Originally set to be finished on August 23rd, the project will now be delayed by at least one week but could continue past Labor Day and the start of school year. Officials are working with district officials to come up with a plan if construction continues past the initial one week delay.
Dog park working on new shelter

NEW ULM, Minn. (KEYC) - The city of New Ulm has closed the large dog section of their dog park in order to build a new shelter. The process is already underway with a concrete slab installed Tuesday. Supported by the Realtors Association of Southern Minnesota, the project will cost over 15 thousand dollar and take 30 to 40 days to complete.
United Way back to school supplies drive

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Greater Mankato Area United Way is hosting a region wide back to school supplies drive. The group is looking for colored pencils, markers, glue sticks, whiteboard markers, erasers, backpacks and any other school supplies. Community Impact Director Sarah Buesing says backpacks are the item they are in need of the most. “You know getting papers and items from school to home and home to school, it’s really important so that they don’t lose anything,” Buesing said.
Salvation Army holding back to school fair

(KEYC) - The Mankato Salvation Army will be hosting a Back to School Community Fair on Thursday from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M.At the fair, the Salvation Army will be giving out lunches, backpacks, shoes, and family thrift store vouchers to low-income families with children in Kindergarten to 12th grade in Blue Earth County and North Mankato. It will be located at the Salvation Army’s youth center at 700 S Riverfront Dr in Mankato.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Mankato held it’s final Songs on the Lawn performance of the summer. The event featured 3 Hour Download, A local Mankato band which covers 90s and 2000s songs. Their performance was originally set for June 20th but had to be rescheduled due to the weather. Audience member Nadia Wogen spoke about the summer event. “And very community like based,” Wogen said.

WATERVILLE, Minn. (KEYC) - The Small Business Administration opened a location in Waterville last week on Main Street. They provide financial assistance not only to businesses but also homeowners, renters and nonprofits. “So a lot of people get the name confused. Do not be confused. In times of disasters, we are able to help individuals as well recover from the storms that happened,” SBA Public Affairs Specialist Tauheedah Mateen said.
Fairmont Opera House looks for funding

FAIRMONT, Minn. (KEYC) - The Fairmont Opera House is working to repair it’s building but they need funding. The 132 year old opera house was closed in 2023 because of the structural integrity of their roof. They will need to raise $4 million by the end of 2025 to get it back to operational.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Veterinary Pharmaceutical Solutions broke ground on an expansion to almost double the size of their building. CEO Dean Warras says they need the space to meet the demand for their products. The St. Peter company specializes in making medication for animals like cows, pigs and turkeys. “We’re trying to be innovative in meeting the standards that are required,” Co-owner Bill Soderlund said.
Trishaw bike at Pillars of Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Pillars of Mankato give their seniors a chance to ride a bike again. Residents can now be driven around the neighborhood on a Trishaw. The tricycle allows a worker to pedal while the residents sit in the front and enjoy the ride. Pillars of Mankato partnered with Minnesota non profit organization, Cycling Without Age, to make it happen. “Obviously, number one is just get folks outside and keep everybody active,” Outreach and Sale Director Lisa Sandmann said.
Mankato offers free RibFest transit

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Mankato is offering a free public transportation route to this year’s RibFest. The city is offering it to help people navigate the construction on Riverfront Drive. To get to RibFest, you can park and then catch the bus at a stop at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
