As those catastrophic fires continue to rage in Los Angeles, young advocates are stepping up a campaign to get "duty of care" climate laws passed in the Australian parliament. A legislated duty of care would force government decision-makers to explicitly consider the wellbeing of young people and future generations when making decisions about new fossil fuel projects.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton is expected to hold a campaign-style rally in Melbourne this weekend in the Labor-held seat of Chisholm in the city's east.
