Jacqueline Chan·Follow5 min read·--Before we had Michelin food, we had breakfast buffet at NH hotel, the one we swiftly changed to after San Miguel failed to rectify the air conditioning-fail situation. In hindsight, we felt misled by the great reviews and the TripAdvisor Award that the hotel apparently boasts. These travelers must have travelled during winter times when air conditioning was unnecessary.

Also declared as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1997, Hospital de Sant Pau is yet another work of the art nouveau architect, Lluís Domènech i Montaner. I was most intrigued while researching the art nouveau sites and buildings. This is one of the buildings that resonates most with one of the missions of my startup — healthcare, mental healthcare in the tech-driven age. What could mental healthcare look like in a post-modern world?

The Symbol of Barcelona; The Sagradia Familia is created for photographersAfter our trip, we were ultimately quite ambivalent towards Barcelona. In hindsight, could this feeling have been avoided if we proactively avoided scam-taxis? Even though online forums have been rampant with tourist-hating attitude of these Catalans, it did not prepare us for the disappointment we ultimately felt.

Preventative care is underrated. I’ve felt like a broken record — in times of business and stress, we forget the basics: vitamin levels, physical health, taking breaks etc. How do we anticipate challenges in advance and build in habits to pre-solve these issues? While that’s generally the approach I’ve taken towards my work, I’ve noticed that only happens after you get experience (the data necessary to understand types of challenges ahead). Perhaps not so surprisingly, that also applies to travel.

After seeing Andalusia and a brief stop in Madrid for the first part of our trip, Salamanca architecture and urban style is a sharp contrast. We took the ALSA bus from Madrid to Salamanca. In Madrid, we fumbled a bit asking for directions on where to wait for the bus - but we got there. Upon reflection, it is one of my favorite towns in Spain.

Our first destination is known to be the most beautiful city in the world. Beauty or not is rather subjective, though if the objective criteria also includes the maximum amount of culture in the form of architecture and color and history, then Seville would more than qualify for this condition alone. After a long layover in Montreal, we arrived in Malaga early in the morning. My immediate impression of Malaga was that it reminded me of Indonesia somehow.

Is relaxation really be the name of the game, namely, priority, for traveling? While perhaps not necessarily the first priority, it certainly should be a crucial component in travel planning. My priority for traveling is to see all that can inspire me - interesting architecture, and of course, the sets and scenes that have inspired so many TV shows (GOT) and kdramas.
