I am at that age and have a “history of GI issues,” where every so many years, I have to plan a colonoscopy. I loathe them. LOATHE. Not the actual procedure, because I am asleep, but the preparation. Anyone who has ever had one knows exactly the plan and preparation I am talking about. Now, on my previous one, I was able to get these capsules you take. Because I normally throw up the liquid. I mean, who doesn’t mind guzzling a gallon of salty, fruit-flavored, viscous fluid?

I was listening to a motivational speaker I like, and he said two things that really stood out to me. This past weekend I went to a fun farm and pumpkin patch with my family. It is a really neat place that is all decked out for a non-scary harvest festival that is perfect for a family outing with a 3-year-old. It’s a place we’ve gone to for years — in the spring, summer and fall — and it is fairytale-themed. In the fall, they really go all out. They had baby animals for viewing and petting. You could groom a horse. You could feed the goats. You could hold and pet a bunny.

The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene at the end of September is insurmountable. The death toll continues to climb, and the cost of the destruction is now well over $30 billion. Many of us had facilities affected by it. Some had to evacuate. Some lost electricity and water and had roofs damaged. In some areas, staff couldn’t get in. And you know what? That amazing spirit kicked in.
