There are multiple bills in the Nevada State Legislature looking to bring two movie studios to southern Nevada. The move would be in partnership with Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, and Howard Hughes, and be known as Summerlin Studios. The bill we've reported on in the past is still alive, Assembly Bill 238, and it had its first real hearing since the end of February. Last month, it was moved out of the Assembly of Revenue without recommendation.

The Grand Sierra Resort's billion-dollar expansion project is about to get the ball rolling. On Wednesday, Reno's Redevelopment Advisory Board approved about $61 million on tax incentives for the project. "At the end of the day, everybody won," said Alex Meruelo, Owner of the GSR. "The city wins, GSR wins, the University wins, council wins, we all win and that makes it a great deal."Work is expected to begin here shortly. "We're breaking ground in June," Meruelo said.

California State Parks is looking to restore a building that's almost 100 years old in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Restoration work on the historic castle will start next week. The Vikingsholm building is at Emerald Bay State Park. The Lake Tahoe Basin brings in millions of visitors every single year and California State Parks says the Vikingsholm is typically on the top of a lot of visitors' lists. It adds a lot of rich history to the area, history that spans almost a century.

On Monday, the City of Reno held a budget workshop, looking into the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Budget issues are impacting several jurisdictions across northern Nevada. The City of Reno is projecting a $25 million shortfall for the '25-'26 fiscal year. "Unlike the federal government, we do not run a deficit budget. We always make revenue and expenses match," said Jackie Bryant, Reno City Manager. "So, for the upcoming fiscal year our biggest challenge is in the General Fund.

There's the potential to bring two major film studios to Nevada this legislative session. Warner Brothers Discovery, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Howard Hughes are partnering together to try and make Nevada a big part of the film industry. The proposed Summerlin Studios is being heard as Assembly Bill 238. The main bill sponsor is Sandra Jauregui, (D) Assembly Floor Leader. She says this development would help diversify Nevada's economy.
