Back on June 19, 2019 - Alexandria's Nordic Warriors Boxing Academy hosted its first "Way of the Warrior" amateur boxing event. Held in the Broadway Ballroom, the event drew roughly 700 people and set the stage for what the gym's owner, Corey Thompson, hoped would be the start of a long run of events for Douglas County fighters and fans.

PARKERS PRAIRIE — Around this time in 2023, Parkers Prairie was one of the biggest surprises in Class A football. The team was 5-0 and had entered the state's top-10 rankings at No. 8. The program had won five games total in its previous three seasons, so it was becoming a very special time to be on the Panthers' football squad.

COLD SPRING — The Alexandria cross country teams competed at the ROCORI Invite on Sept. 19 and saw their girls squad earn a first-place (out of 10) finish with 33 points, well ahead of second-place Wayzata (126 points). The Alexandria girls were led by four top-10 (out of 87) finishers: Citori Halbe (fourth, 20:04.9), Bobbi Nichols (fifth, 20:17.7), Kasey Soderholm (sixth, 20:21.6) and Quinn Hills (eighth, 20:22.9).

The Alexandria soccer teams squared off against the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres on Thursday in a Central Lakes Conference matchup that ended with a pair of losses for the Cardinals. The boys hosted the Sabres and despite controlling the match for the first 30 minutes, the Cardinals conceded three late goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to dampen their spirits heading into the break.

The Alexandria girls swim and dive team traveled to face a tough Sartell-St. Stephen squad on Thursday and was dealt a 125-61 loss. In the team loss, Rayna Holm (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Grace Urke (100m backstroke) picked up the lone event wins for the Cardinals. Alexandria hosts Brainerd on Sept.

BARRETT — West Central Conference contenders Minnewaska and West Central Area both entered Thursday's clash just one game back of conference leaders Sauk Centre and with a chance to continue building some winning momentum in the middle section of their seasons. Both teams had an 8-2 record (5-1 WCC), with the Knights coming off five straight conference sweeps and the Lakers coming off three straight conference sweeps.

The Alexandria Community Christian School, Ashby-Brandon-Evansville, Minnewaska and West Central Area cross country teams all competed at the Melrose Area Invitational on Tuesday. Minnewaska led the area schools with second-place finish (out of 12) in the girls meet with 66 points, behind only New London-Spicer (40 points). The Lakers were led by a trio of top-10 (out of 90) finishers: Nori Song (sixth, 21:00.9), Jillian Deustch (eighth, 21:24.7) and Maia Larson (ninth, 21:25.2).

ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria boys and girls soccer teams were both in action against St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday at home and both games played out to a 1-1 tie. In the boys game, the Cardinals opened the scoring late in the first half after Otto Anderson's shot was parried to a trailing Rogan Anderson, who was able to tap the ball home for an easy score.

The Alexandria girls tennis team picked up a 5-2 home win over St. Cloud Crush on Tuesday. The Cardinals made a clean sweep at doubles in the win and improved to 16-5 on the season. Alexandria is back in action on Thursday for a triangular at Glencoe at 2 p.m. Alexandria 5, St. Cloud Apollo 2 No. 1 - Paige Tarrolly (S) def. OSAKIS — After roaring back from a 2-0 deficit in Tuesday's home conference battle against rival Browerville-Eagle Valley, the Silverstreaks found themselves in a 4-0 hole to start the all-important fifth set. Osakis head coach Brittney Kohorst then called a timeout. "Sometimes the girls will take a few too many mental breaks - so I called them out on it, and they owned up to it," Kohorst said.
