Martin Heydon seems set to be announced as the new Minister for Agriculture next week, with Independent TDs Noel Grealish and Michael Healy-Rae set to work alongside him. Heydon, who has been Minister of State since 2020 and with the agriculture portfolio swapping over from Fianna Fáil to Fine Gael, is widely seen as the most likely to be given the job by Micheál Martin and Simon Harris.

Perhaps most significantly, the social housing waiting list in Wexford has been reduced by over 35% from 2019 to 2023. That’s progress, but we can’t stop there. Housing is the greatest domestic challenge we face today. We need more social homes. We need more affordable homes. We need more private homes, and we need more homes for renters. The answer to this challenge is simple: we must increase the supply of all types of housing.
