According to the latest Daft.ie house price report released on Tuesday, the price of a home in Co Kildare jumped by nearly 13pc in just one year. This rise saw the average price of a home in the county increase to €367,511 – which is €21,000 more than the national average and over 40pc more expensive than pre-Covid prices in the county.

The Irish government has released a list of ministers set to visit cities across the world to mark St Patrick’s Day. As well as Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Simon Harris travelling to the United States, there will be 38 representatives visiting 40 countries for the annual celebrations. Among the countries that Irish government ministers will visit are Germany, Chile, Argentina, Australia and India.

The government are set to make history with 23 Junior Ministers. The government plans to alter legislation to increase the limit of junior ministers from 20 to 23, with 10 Fianna Fáil TDs, eight Fine Gael TDs and five independents set to fill the roles — while Pa Daly of Sinn Féin has filed a High Court motion over the constitutionality of ‘super junior’ ministers at cabinet meetings.

ALL 23 JUNIOR Ministers have been named by Government. The record number of positions are filled by 10 Fianna Fáil TDs, eight Fine Gael TDs and five Independents. The positions were confirmed by Cabinet when it met this afternoon. Four of the 23 are super junior ministers (these four were confirmed last week) and will sit at the weekly Cabinet meetings. Martin Heydon seems set to be announced as the new Minister for Agriculture next week, with Independent TDs Noel Grealish and Michael Healy-Rae set to work alongside him. Heydon, who has been Minister of State since 2020 and with the agriculture portfolio swapping over from Fianna Fáil to Fine Gael, is widely seen as the most likely to be given the job by Micheál Martin and Simon Harris.

Here is a snapshot of what was happening in every constituency across the nation this evening, as counts continue into Sunday night. As of last night, no one had been elected in Carlow-Kilkenny, but Fianna Fáil’s John McGuinness was inching towards the quota. Next was Jennifer Murnane O’Connor (Fianna Fáil) on 8,735, followed by Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere (FF) on 7,957, Áine Gladney Knox (Sinn Féin) on 7,535 and Catherine Callaghan (Fine Gael) on 7,405. Fine Gael’s Michael Doyle was eliminated.
