The San Diego Padres are coming off a demolishing of the Atlanta Braves in the opening series of the 2025 season. Before the year, there were reasons to worry about the San Diego Padres’ 2025 season. No major moves were made to the roster until weeks before the spring season started. Jurickson Profar did not sign with San Diego. Ha-Seong Kim and Tanner Scott also left the Padres and signed elsewhere. The Padres failed to make any major moves and lost out on the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes to the Dodgers.

Predictions from 10 members of our staff on how the 2025 season will go for the San Diego Padres. The 2024 season ended abruptly as the San Diego Padres lost in the NLDS to the Los Angeles Dodgers. A 24-inning scoreless streak doomed the Padres after they built a 2-1 advantage in the five-game series. It happens. Baseball is like that. Streaks can make or break a season. For the Padres, the ending was brutal as the team looked dominating at times during the season.

Gavin Sheets is capable of being a really productive player for the San Diego Padres this season. If the Padres want to make the playoffs in 2025, players must step up. More specifically, the team will need some offensive production from the bottom half of the lineup. Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, Jake Cronenworth, and Xander Bogaerts give the Padres an excellent core group, but San Diego will need some unheralded players to step up.

The San Diego Padres are attempting to save money this winter, and trading Robert Suarez could be an option. Unfortunately, it seems the San Diego Padres are maxed out when it comes to spending. We are nowhere near a fire sale, but the team is coming to the realization that they cannot continue to spend like seasons past. With several free agents and a few more after the 2025 season, the Padres must be frugal moving forward. A.J. Preller and his staff require creativity.

A.J. Preller is in search of starting pitching for the Padres in 2025. The 2024 season did not end well for the San Diego Padres. The lack of offense in the final two and a half games was puzzling. But that is how the game of baseball goes sometimes. For the Padres, the majority of the roster is locked in for the 2025 season. Tanner Scott, Jurickson Profar, Kyle Higashioka, and Ha-Seong Kim are free agents.
