Sexual selection can result in extreme development of multimodal mate-attracting traits, including complex constructions. Male great bowerbirds build bowers for attracting females. Bowers contain a thatched twig tunnel (avenue) opening onto two courts covered with decorations. Males displaying on a court are seen by a female from within the avenue.

Aug. 21—YPSILANTI — Winslow Robinson's first name starts with the right three letters. Or four, depending how you look at it. The last three work equally as well for golf. The Traverse City West senior wins a lot, cementing a victory Wednesday with the tournament's low round to claim the 2024 GAM Boys Championship at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti. Robinson shot a 2-under 69 to win the tourney by four shots.
The Divide bike race set for Sunday in Manton; YMCA hosting basketball fundamentals camp

MANTON - The Divide, a hilly gravel road bike race with three lengths to choose from, takes place Sunday in Manton. The 10th annual race is a founding member of the Michigan Gravel Road Series, and featured 250 competitors last year. The event starts at noon and has options for 19, 34 and 50 miles. Race director Jeff Harding said mile-for-mile it's the hilliest gravel road race in the state and in the country that he's been able to find info for online.

The Titans (6-4-4) fell to Division 1 No. 6-ranked Troy Athens 2-0 Saturday in a close contest at the Traverse City Invitational hosted by West. Head coach Bruce Koopman took the blame first, saying in the postgame press conference he should have taken a timeout in the final minute of regulation. Wildfire burns between 3.94 million and 5.19 million square kilometres of land every year worldwide. If that area were a single country, it would be the seventh largest in the world. In Australia, most fire occurs in the vast tropical savannas of the country’s north. In new research published in Nature Geoscience, we show Indigenous management of fire in these regions began at least 11,000 years ago – and possibly as long as 40,000 years ago.
