The civil case against the former INBS chief is in its fourth day before the High Court, where it is alleged that he negligently mismanaged the building society and engaged in property "gambles" in the mid-2000s with high net-worth individuals in an informal and speculative manner.

    The one-time head of security for pop star Rihanna, who drew "ancient symbols" on the ground outside a Garda station to "remove evil spirits", has had his conviction for criminal damage overturned on appeal. Geoffrey Keating (47), with an address at Woodbank Drive, Finglas, Dublin 11 originally pleaded not guilty to criminal damage under the Criminal Damage Act, 1991 in the District Court.

    Tomorrow's Munster senior camogie final between Cork and Waterford has been cancelled amid the skorts controversy. The Munster Council have made the decision to postpone the game, after both teams confirmed they would wear shorts instead of skorts for the fixture. In a statement, chairperson Christine Ryan said that with the current rules over skorts still in place, a postponement is "in the best interests of all players and officials involved".

Tony McGillicuddy SC, for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), said Smith’s appeal against conviction suffered from “a huge deficit” and what was presented was a “self-serving and self-pitying” portrait.
