Friday ended for Mount Marty much like it started, with an Aidan Chang home run. Chang’s second home run of the game, a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifted the Lancers to an 8-6 victory over Morningside in the Morningside bracket final of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament, Friday at Yankton’s Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.

An up-and-down Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball season for Mount Marty will end with the Lancers hosting an opening round bracket in the GPAC Tournament. Just not in the traditional sense. Morningside (33-12-1, 19-9 GPAC) earned the second seed in the GPAC Tournament, earning the right to host its portion of the tournament. Without a home field, the Mustangs were forced to move the event to Yankton’s Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.

Centerville native Logan Bobzin was given a short, if vague, mission in relief of Mount Marty starting pitcher Mitchell Hamrock. “Be aggressive. Don’t be scared,” the sophomore said after the Lancers’ 11-3 victory over the University of Sioux Falls in a non-conference baseball game, Monday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium.

For the eighth and ninth times in the past 11 games, the Mount Marty offense put the second column on the total runs scoreboard to use. MMU put up 23 runs in a doubleheader split with Midland, which entered the day one game ahead of the Lancers in the tightly compacted Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball standings, on Saturday at Riverside Field at Bob Tereshinski Stadium. The Lancers (25-17, 12-12 GPAC) remained a game behind the Warriors (17-25, 13-11) for sixth in the GPAC.
