Another piece of hardware comes home to Taylorsville, aka #TitleTown. Taylorsville defeated Pine Grove 11-4 in the third and deciding game of the Class 1A State Championship series on Saturday, May 25, at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS, to capture its eighth state title in program history. Taylorsville baseball now ties the football program in state title wins. The Tartars banged out 12 hits on Saturday, nearly eclipsing its combined total in Game 1 and 2.

In a usual set of circumstances, Taylorsville clung to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning on Wednesday afternoon despite a no-hitter being waged against them by Pine Grove's senior RHP Coy Childs. With two runners on in the bottom frame, Brady Quinn adjusted to an outside pitch and sent it up the middle for an RBI single, breaking Childs’ no-hitter. “I knew the umpire had a wide zone,” said Quinn. “I figured they would throw me something away because I’ve struggled against pitches away all season.

Taylorsville ended Resurrection Catholic’s reign in 1A baseball on Tuesday night. Ending the reigning 1A champs’ quest for a three-peat, Taylorsville shutout Resurrection Catholic 8-0 in the third and deciding game of the Class 1A South State Championship series. The win earned the Tartars a trip to Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS, for the 1A State Championship series, which begins on Wednesday, May 22, at 1 p.m., against Pine Grove.

Two West Jones basketball standouts signed athletic scholarships on Tuesday morning in the presence of coaches, administrators, family, teammates, and friends. Cooper Kennedy signed with Pearl River Community College, while Ben Cole IV put pen to paper with Meridian Community College. "[Ben Cole and Cooper Kennedy] had an outstanding senior season," said West Jones head basketball coach Regis Huddleston. "Both are great people with great parents and families.
