As soon as the weather allowed, Albany-Saratoga promoter Lyle DeVore and his track crew were actively working the racing surface in preparation for the 60th anniversary season of racing at the “Great Race Place.”Weather permitting, the cars are scheduled to hit the freshened racing surface Friday for an open practice session before next Friday’s season opener, featuring the 60-lap, $7,500-to-win big block modified Super DIRTcar Series main event.

In early March, it was announced that Jason Broedel and Brett Deyo were no longer partners in ownership of Utica-Rome Speedway as Broedel bought out Deyo share of the partnership. Last Thursday the Amsterdam Rams dropped their second Foothills Council game of the season, a 65-49 decision to Hudson Falls. It was not their best game. The coaches knew it and the players knew it. The Rams returned to the court Saturday for a league game against a Gloversville team that has proven extremely tough on its home court. Amsterdam came out strong, with Aundray Fowler and Jude Flint connecting on 3-pointers in the opening minutes.

GLOVERSVILLE – With both teams looking to rebound from disappointing losses earlier this week, the Amsterdam and Gloversville boys varsity basketball teams squared off Saturday afternoon at Gloversville High School. The Rams got off to a quick start, using three 3-pointers and a 3-point play to build a 20-9 first quarter advantage over Gloversville. The Dragons could not recover from the early deficit and dropped their second-straight Foothills Council game 59-43.

AMSTERDAM — With a pair of impressive season-opening victories by the Amsterdam boys basketball team, varsity coach Tim Jones said the key has been balance. After receiving a first-week bye in the league competition, the Rams opened the season on the road with a 71-58 victory over Hudson Falls. They backed that win up with a 73-58 victory over Gloversville Tuesday night in their home opener in the newly renovated gym at Amsterdam High School.
