The 60th anniversary season is off to a good start at the Great Race Place. The rain held off for last Friday’s season-opener at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, and fans packed the grandstand to see many of the top runners on the DIRTcar Series circuit for the first time this season. Veteran modified driver LJ Lombardo was able to finally get a victory he has been chasing for many years. “I have been chasing a win at this place for a long time,” Lombardo said in Victory Lane.

The 2024 racing season at Fonda Speedway was filled with many challenges, especially a poor racing surface that forced cancellations of some Saturday night events. The speedway management and track crew spent many hours working to remove rocks and getting the track raceable enough to get through the season. After the final checkered flag dropped on the season, the old surface was scraped off and fresh clay hauled in and allowed to settle over the long winter.
