A Yuma former police officer, arrested more than five years ago on dozens of charges related to child sexual abuse, has accepted a plea agreement, thereby avoiding a jury trial. Bobby Anthony Garcia, 43, pleaded guilty on April 8 to three felony counts: sexual conduct with a minor, molestation of a minor per domestic violence, and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. Under the terms of the agreement, prosecutors dropped the remaining charges ahead of his scheduled trial.

I have a confession to make. I actually hate bacon. I would even go as far as saying I loathe it. Never liked it, and I probably never will. If there’s a gene for it–like the one some people have for cilantro–then I’m pretty sure I’ve got it. I’m still haunted by the memory of the coffee can of bacon grease my grandparents kept on their stove. The awful taste aside, it’s the smell that gets me. That stench permeates the air and lasts for hours.

Despite a recent decline in pedestrian accidents, Yuma officials remain concerned about the city’s ongoing challenges in ensuring pedestrian safety, especially as the population continues to grow. This growth has increased the number of drivers and pedestrians sharing the roads, raising the risk of accidents. Over the past decade, Yuma has recorded 19 pedestrian fatalities, 17 of which occurred during low-light conditions, typically between dusk and dawn.

And, as expected I’d seen most of the films on the list and generally agreed with the picks. The top 10 included solid choices like Black Panther (2018), Logan (2017), The Dark Knight (2008), and the Avengers (2012).

It’s humbling when you realize your dog has you trained. For me, that dog is my 16-year-old Boston Terrier, Bentley, who I affectionately call Grandmaster B. While my wife and I have two other dogs, Bentley always manages to steal the spotlight. Over the years, he’s developed a unique little ritual that I’ve come to expect. Whenever I go into the kitchen, he follows me, and if I don’t offer him a bite of whatever I’m making or a treat, he starts licking the refrigerator door.

Illegal crossings at the Yuma Sector have dropped by 73% in the past year, marking a major shift in border enforcement efforts, according to Yuma Sector Border Patrol Chief Justin De La Torre. The decline comes after record-breaking numbers in 2022, when mor than 300,000 people entered the country illegally through the sector, with some days seeing more than 1,000 apprehensions. “We’ve seen a significant reduction in illegal entries, which is a really good thing,” De La Torre said.

A search warrant led to shots being fired in the Foothills on Wednesday. The Yuma Sun received unconfirmed reports from numerous sources that a suspect died in the incident. However, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office was unable to confirm the reports as of press time. At 12:08 p.m., YCSO responded to an incident involving shots being fired in the area of East 37th Street and South Avenida Compadres.

CALEXICO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers assigned to the San Diego Field Office made significant seizures last week, intercepting over 630 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 114 pounds of illicit fentanyl pills in two separate smuggling attempts at the Calexico West Port of Entry. The first incident happened on Friday, October 25, when officers encountered a 26-year-old male driver in a red sedan attempting to enter the United States from Mexico.
