With temperatures expected to get hotter and hotter this week, the Met Office says a new record could be set. Temperatures in the UK could hit 30C at the earliest point of the year on record on Thursday, the Met Office has said. Parts of southern and central England are expected to see temperatures of 26C on Tuesday, with conditions getting warmer through the week, potentially reaching 27C in London on Wednesday.

The two men on trial for felling the Sycamore Gap cut the famous tree down with a chainsaw while filming themselves on a 'moronic mission', a court has heard. The opening of the trial of Daniel Graham, 39, from Milbeck Stables, Carlisle, and Adam Carruthers, 32, from Church Street, Wigton, Cumbria, began on Tuesday at Newcastle Crown Court. They are jointly charged with causing £622,191 of criminal damage to the beloved Northumberland tree.
