Round after round, the Shute Shield keeps delivering, and this week was no different. From the Wildfires finding their rhythm to the Rats tearing it up late and Norths showing their class, fans were treated to big hits, slick hands, and more than a few naughty boys. With the halfway mark creeping closer, the intensity has gone up a gear, and it’s starting to show on the scoreboard.

From the brutal grind at North Sydney Oval to the Wildfires lighting it up in Newcastle, this round had everything: yellow cards, intercept tries, late drama, and a few teams putting their hand up as genuine contenders. Randwick def Harbour 31-28It was a tight ball game between the Wicks and Wests. Quick thinking from Tim Sippel’s tap put Randwick on the front foot, and Isi Naisarani took the liberty himself, picking through the middle of the ruck to open the scoring just one minute in.

Easts def Hunter 15-12The Wildfires nearly pulled off the boilover, opening with a monster 50-22 from flyhalf Connor Winchester, thanks in part to some radioactive ball-watching from fullback Chris Bell at the back. But Easts weathered the early storm. Momentum swung when Hunter’s no. 13, Sitiveni Vahai — a certified handful all game — pinched a turnover and went 80 metres downfield. Could’ve gone either way, but sometimes the footy gods just let it ride.
