The first community event for residents, an ice cream social, was held inside the Senior Wellness Center attached to their building. It has been five months since the grand opening of the Paul Downey Senior Residence, a 79-unit apartment building for low-income seniors, 62 years and older.

To help meet the community’s critical need for donations, the County of San Diego has hosted an annual springtime blood drive for the past 41 years, impacting more than 60,000 lives. The month-long event kicked off Tuesday outside the downtown County Administration Center with the San Diego Blood Bank’s mobile donation center as a backdrop.

Reading Time: < 1 minuteCounty officials and community members broke ground Wednesday on a project that will bring a new library branch to Casa de Oro to meet the growing needs of the community. The new library will be located at 9610 Campo Road in Spring Valley near Spring Valley Academy. The current facility is in a leased location and is 6,000 square feet. The new library will double in size to 12,000 square feet with an approximately 2,000 square foot Community Room.
