A "one in a billion" spherical egg has been discovered in a woman's weekly shop. The egg was found by a woman from Ayr, who discovered it in a box of 15 that she had purchased from her local ASDA. Curious about the unusual discovery, the woman got in touch with auction house Thomson Roddick Callan - who agreed to put the egg up for sale.

Police are probing claims that metal hip replacements have been stolen from a crematorium. Local council chiefs have dismissed an employee in connection to the missing implants. The council, which runs the facility, sells metals from joint and bone replacements after bodies are cremated and donates the proceeds to charity. Concerns are growing for a vulnerable woman missing from her home in Glasgow. Audrey Hamilton, 61, was last seen in the Riddrie Knowes area of the city on Monday, August 5, at around 10am. Officers from Police Scotland have described Audrey as a vulnerable woman and say they are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare.

A wheelchair user says the view of Take That from her accessible seating at their gig was so bad it was like "being in prison". Metal bars obscured Michelle Ritchie's view at Birmingham's Utilita arena and she says she couldn't see anything on the stage. The 33-year-old had travelled over 200 miles to the Midlands to see Take That supported by Olly Murs. But she says she was disappointed by the experience and doesn't think it was worth the £90 ticket, in May.

A second Barbary macaque has been born at a Scottish safari park, its thrilled staff have announced. The infant was born to mother Eadie last month and has been named Harper by its keepers at Blair Drummond Safari Park near Stirling. He joins Hayley, who was born in May.

Tesco staff were hailed as heroes after a four-year-old girl wandered into a store alone. Police was called to a Tesco Express at around 10.45am on Wednesday, July 24, after the little girl walked into the shop by herself. The force confirmed the child had been reported missing from her home a short distance just a few minutes earlier. In a post in a local Facebook group the mum said her daughter had got out of the backdoor of their home and she had reported her missing within minutes.

The Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) and the UK National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) released the joint report on Thursday, which looks at prisons and mental health settings in Scotland, with multiple areas of concern highlighted. The areas include mental health, segregation and deaths in custody.

A single mother-of-two who framed an innocent woman for motoring offences after she was caught driving a pick-up truck without insurance has walked free after telling a judge she was pregnant with her third child. Juliann Quilligan, 27, falsely gave her name as Rebecca Williams after police stopped her Mitsubishi L200 which was illegally pulling a trailer along the M62 motorway - then kept silent as the victim unknowingly was given eight penalty points on her licence at a magistrates court.

Children must be moved from Polmont Young Offenders Institution imminently, a campaigner has said. Fiona Dyer, director of the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice, said it needs to happen "as soon as possible". She was speaking in the wake of the recent death of 17-year-old Jonathan Beadle at the facility near Falkirk, which is Scotland's largest young offenders institution.
