Columbus North did what it needed to do to advance to Wednesday’s girls regional tennis final. The 18th-ranked Bull Dogs defeated Southwestern (Hanover) 4-1 in the semifinal Tuesday. They will take on Jennings County, which defeated Lawrenceburg 4-1 in the other semifinal match. “We didn’t know a lot about this team, but I know they had a good year,” North coach Kendal Hammel said.

The crosstown softball rematch is Wednesday, and this time, it will be win-or-go-home. Columbus North (13-11) and Columbus East (9-15) are slated to play in the first game of the semifinal round of the East Central Sectional, with the first pitch scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will advance to Thursday’s sectional final. In the other half of the bracket, the host Trojans will take on Whiteland Tuesday, with the winner meeting Franklin in the second semifinal game Wednesday.

Ava Bunker is off to a fast start to her 2025 junior girls golf campaign. Bunker, an Edinburgh resident, already has notched a couple top-10 finishes so far. Bunker finished at 6-under-par 210 to finish third in the American Junior Golf Association Callaway Junior April 10-13 at Canebrake Club in Athens, Alabama. She finished at 1-under 71 after the first day, then a 5-under 66 on the second day and an even-par 72 on the final day.

It started off as a pheonomenal round for Brady Schneider by going 3-under on the front nine. Although the Columbus North senior’s score dipped on the back nine, he finished with a 1-over par 73 to earn medalist honors and give the Bull Dogs a 308-345 boys golf victory over Columbus East Friday morning at Otter Creek. “I played pretty well on the front. I was hitting it well,” Schneider said.
