More than 153 people have been confirmed dead in the most powerful earthquake to strike Thailand in nearly 200 years, with officials warning that thousands of people are feared dead. At least 144 people were killed and 732 injured in war-torn Myanmar by the powerful 7.7 magnitude quake which struck near the city of Mandalay this morning. At least 10 people died Bangkok, where a high-rise under construction collapsed.

A survivor of the Egypt submarine tragedy has claimed the vessel began to dive with its hatches still open, leaving tourists to scramble out themselves as it took on water. Elena Boldareva and her husband swam out of the Sindbad tourist submersible as it began to sink at its landing pontoon, off the coast of Hurghada, this morning. Her daughter and mother were taken to hospital, among the 39 rescued. Six people have died, and at least one child is still in serious condition.

Detectives investigating the death of French toddler Émile Soleil have revealed horrific details today of how they believe the toddler died as they issued a series of bombshell developments in the case. Prosecutor Jean-Luc Bachon told reporters that his team was still exploring the likelihood Émile was attacked by a 'third party' when he vanished in July 2023. He said scars found on the skull recovered last March were 'suggestive of violent facial trauma'.

Video shows a military police officer beating a traumatised soldier with a truncheon before tasing him with a stun gun in the Russian region of Tuva. The thug, nicknamed 'Mad', is seen torturing injured personnel ostensibly in an effort to get them to return to the Ukrainian frontlines.
