Pro-Palestinian protesters who set up camp at the University of Guelph more than a month ago say they will pack up and leave by next Monday. The demonstrators say in a written statement that they will be leaving on their own timeline, which will give them the chance to do so safely and without damaging the camp materials. They say equipment used at the encampment will be donated to those struggling as a result of the housing crisis.

A Kitchener neighbourhood group is anxiously awaiting a decision from Kitchener city staff about whether or not it will extend Biehn Drive in the Brigadoon Woods area of the city. The proposal would see housing built on farm field land near Strasburg Creek but part of that development would need infrastructure built in the area. That's where the Biehn Drive extension would come in to help developers get the infrastructure that's needed to build on those lands.

The organizers of the pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Waterloo have announced that they will be voluntarily decamping Sunday at 8 p.m. It comes after officials from the University of Waterloo said it will withdraw their claim and injunction against the protesters once organizers vacate the encampment.

The 11th annual Farwell4Hire campaign has come to a close with another large total being donated to Cystic Fibrosis Canada. CityNews 570 Talk Show Host Mike Farwell announced on social media Thursday night that $132,000 has been raised this year. "We simply could not have done it this year without our friends at TLC Pet Food in New Hamburg," said Farwell. "Hands down, no question, a $40,000-matching sponsorship," he added.

The 2024 CHL Import Draft was held Wednesday morning with the Kitchener Rangers selecting in the first round, 45th overall and in the second round 105th overall. Thomas Chrenko was Kitchener's first-round pick of the draft. The 16-year-old is listed as a left winger but has also played centre. Chrenko played his 2023-24 season mostly for HK Nitra U20 team in the Slovakia U20 league. He scored 24 goals and registered 44 assists for 68 points in 44 games played.

There will be plenty of local talent participating in NHL summer development camps this offseason. Eleven Kitchener Rangers players will be attending camps across eight different teams in the league. This comes after two Kitchener Rangers were selected in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday. Luke Ellinas was taken in the fourth round by the Ottawa Senators, while Trent Swick was taken in the sixth round by the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is out with an ask from the community before you set off fireworks this long weekend. Consider the impact fireworks can have on pets and wildlife. "For many pets, the loud noises and bright flashes of fireworks can cause extreme anxiety and stress," said Lisa Veit, GHS Executive Director in a media release.

The 2024 NHL Entry Draft took place Friday and Saturday from the Sphere in Las Vegas. Four Kitchener Rangers players were eligible to be selected in the draft including Luke Ellinas, Trent Swick, Max Dirracolo and Carson Campbell. Ottawa selected Luke Ellinas in the fourth round, 104th overall. Ellinas recorded 16 goals and 17 assists for 33 points in the 2023-24 season.

Beginning on July 1, Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) will be introducing the launch of a Mandatory Alcohol Screening Pilot Project. The pilot will be carried out through until December 2024. WRPS said in a media release that it's to combat impaired driving to improve road and community safety in Waterloo Region. According to police, 939 impaired driving-related charges were laid in 2023. Impaired driving was a factor in two traffic collision fatalities last year.
