    Just as Nova 106.9 was farewelling Susie O’Neill as a breakfast show regular comes news she not leaving the studios permanently. O’Neill is to extend her longstanding relationship with Nova Entertainment with a new role across the Nova Network in 2025. In a new contract, O’Neill will remain within the Nova Entertainment family, working on shows across the Nova Network as a guest presenter for both breakfast and national shows next year.

    At the annual Mediaweek 100 lunch last week at Crown Sydney, Lou Barrett was presented with the Mediaweek Icon Award. The CEO of IPG Mediabrands Australia, Mark Coad, introduced Barrett. The News Corp Australia managing director of sales then spoke about what the Icon award meant to her and her family. Barrett then detailed her move through the ranks of the media industry in TV, radio and publishing. Mediaweek spoke to Barrett to learn more about her media career and she shared some of her insights.

    There was much interest surrounding the Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) Annual General Meeting today and the shareholders’ votes on items of business. There was speculation there would be a shareholder backlash against a number of items of business. There was also an outside chance there might have been an update on the progress of talks to sell the regional TV assets. That didn’t happen and there was only a brief mention of regional TV in the chairman and CEO presentations.

    A memorable 2024 AFL season is set for a spectacular finish, with legendary sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney to return home to Seven’s AFL coverage for this weekend’s two preliminary finals and then the premiership decider on Saturday, 28 September. McAvaney will join AFL football’s FTA commentary team in a key hosting role across the final epic three games of the season. Yet spend any time with new Seven director of network sport, Chris Jones, and he will quickly remind you that while AFL in front and centre now, the 7Sport offering is plentiful and varied. “We love to think of ourselves as the home of sport,” Jones told Mediaweek.
