Going into my senior year at Nordhoff, I’ve been a part of a few clubs, but the horseback riding club, Riding Rangers, that sophomore Helena Maggio is starting is one I knew I needed to hear more about. Helena invites interested Nordhoff students to learn more about it at Don Lalo’s restaurant (585 W. El Roblar Drive) on Friday, July 21, at 6 p.m. She shared the news about the club with the Ojai Valley News in an email interview, which has been edited for length and clarity.

There’s no doubt that the rise of missing cats and dogs in Ojai is causing grief and frustration. There are many different ways to prevent, protect, and find our furry friends who wander, especially if they get frightened by fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday. The Humane Society of Ventura County, 402 Bryant St., provides a variety of services to protect pets. It offers pet tags for only $5. Along with that, there are many collars in HSVC’s “wishing well” for only 50 cents.
