    SWISHER COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — Crews finished demolishing a bridge over southbound I-27 in Swisher County, one week after it collapsed. A big rig hauling a crane hit the FM 928 bridge on May 27, knocking concrete onto the interstate. The bridge -- which was visibly buckled -- collapsed later in the day. It then collapsed in front a driver and was caught on camera. Last week, TxDOT said after the damaged sections are removed, their engineers will check on bridge stability and decide on its safety.

    CANYON, Texas (KVII) — West Texas A&M honored Amarillo ISD Superintendent Emeritus Doug Loomis with an endowed professorship in his name. Dr. Teri Bingham was named the Doug Loomis Professor of Education, a position established by a $125,000 gift from an anonymous donor. “This professorship is a tremendous gift, an incredible opportunity, and one I humbly accept with a strong sense of responsibility,” Bingham said.

    That will require everyone's water bills to go up. Donny Hooper, Assistant City Manager & Public Infrastructure Director, said the big price tag is a ballpark estimate based on similar sized facilities. "I know these are sticker shock numbers," said Hooper. The plant suffered major damage during record flooding in June 2023, and has cost the city more than $4 million since then. It was built in 1963 to treat 4.5 million gallons a day. The plant can currently treat 12 million gallons per day.

    The twister touched down near Floyd, New Mexico at 5:17 p.m.According to the NWS, the twister had peak winds of 90 mph and a max width of 300 yards. It covered 5.2 miles of ground over a 17 minute span. Fortunately there were no reports of major damage or injuries. Storm Search 7 Chief Meteorologist Corbin Voges was on the air, alerting and protecting viewers, when the tornado touched down. He stayed on the air until after it lifted 17 minutes later.
