O-line U. Tight End U. An offensive and defensive line driven program. Those are things that get talked about when discussing Notre Dame’s identity as a football program. One thing that doesn’t get talked about enough is the defense in general. People who follow the program closely know, but it’s rare to see that be the first thing that anyone else who covers the sport talk about from a national perspective.

Notre Dame Football It wasn’t an ideal year one for Mike Elko as head coach at Texas A&M and it started off with a loss at home to Notre Dame. However, things looked promising after they rattled off seven straight wins. When they beat LSU and were at the top of the SEC standings, he came out and said this after the game:"This is a real program. Notre Dame released the scheduled times for their home games this week and there weren’t any big surprises outside of the Navy game being in primetime. That decision might have been puzzling to some, but it makes more sense knowing that Navy could very well be undefeated heading into that matchup, it’s not exactly a glowing Big Ten slate that week, NBC’s deal with the Big Ten includes the right to veto night games in November.

After a rough first two seasons at his alma mater, Mario Cristobal’s third Miami team broke through with a 10 win season. It was the program’s first double digit win season since 2017 when Mark Richt was the head coach. That’s the positive way to look at it. The flip side of the coin is that they blew a golden opportunity to play for an ACC championship and make the College Football Playoff. The Hurricanes started out 9-0, but went 1-3 in their final four games.
