The question is the same one that Notre Dame fans ask every offseason: do the Irish have a team that can win a national championship? In most years during the last three decades, the answer has been no. The Irish had three teams go undefeated in the regular season in the last 15 years and even then the answer was no. Those teams didn’t have enough talent. That might sound cold to put it in those terms, but it’s a fact that’s based on recent national championship teams.

When someone has 11 minutes of highlights from a season, that says a lot about how productive they are as a player. New Notre Dame LB commit Jakobe Clapper is a playmaker. His 195 tackles the past two seasons backs that up. A bit of a throwback who is advanced in many areas, Clapper is one of my favorite prospects that Notre Dame has landed so far in the 2026 class. I’m a huge fan of his game.

Being the head coach at Alabama was seen as a great opportunity for a long time. It also felt like the opportunity was squandered by coaches after Gene Stallings retired in 1996. Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula coached a combined 10 seasons at Alabama. Mike Price coached zero seasons, but he was there for a brief moment as well. The Crimson Tide had more losing seasons (five) than they had 10-win seasons (three) during that decade. Then came Nick Saban.
