The first heatwave of 2025 is now well underway, with today marking the 4th day in a row with 90° highs. This is the 90° longest streak since August of last summer, and it’s not over yet. A summer ridge continues to blanket the eastern half of the nation with blistering heat. It’s also tamping down rain chances and blocking cool fronts from getting into the Ozarks. This means we’re in a “wash and repeat” mode, and that’s expected to continue through Thursday.

We dodged a severe weather bullet Tuesday night into Wednesday of this week. But, that wasn’t the case in the hard-hit St. Louis area. Another tornado was confirmed out of severe weather that struck late Wednesday morning north of St. Louis. An EF-1 touched down near Clarksville, MO. The tornado had max winds of 104 mph and was on the ground for about 3.6 miles before lifting on the other side of the Mississippi River. This brings this year’s record-setting tornado count to 116.

After a long, and at times stormy and wet, spring, summer has arrived. And, right on cue, summer heat and humidity are building in. Tonight will come with clear skies and a touch of humidity. We’re still north of a warm front, a warm front that will unleash the summer muggies Friday. Friday is shaping up to be our hottest day and likely our most humid day so far this year. Sunny skies will give way to a few clouds bubbling up in the afternoon.

We threaded the severe weather needle over the past 24 hours. A sprawling complex of storms brought severe weather to our doorstep last night, but as the storms crossed I-49, they fell apart. That same system swept away the risk for severe storms today with nice weather from start to finish, outside of a few spotty showers. The leftovers of that storm complex flared up with widespread severe weather again today from the Mississippi River, east through Illinois and Indiana.
