Being slow can be a good thing. In fact, some creatures’ very survival in the wild depends on it. “Survival of the Slowest” is the newest exhibit at the Fleet Science Center. It features live animals housed inside 19 temperature and humidity-regulated natural habitats. The animals include Maple the sloth, Casper the albino iguana and Aphrodite the boa constrictor.

The San Diego County Fair was established in 1880, and has grown into San Diego County’s largest and longest-running annual event. Beginning with the Opening Ceremony at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, this year’s fair runs through July 6 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). The theme for this year’s fair is the “Summer Pet-tacular.” “This year’s theme exhibit, called ‘Pets Rock: Live on Tour, presented by Kahoots,’ takes guests through the world from a pet’s perspective.

The summer holiday season is almost upon us, and that means it is time for this year’s special summertime entertainment at SeaWorld San Diego. They call it SeaWorld San Diego’s Summer Spectacular and, as an annual pass member, I was invited to the pass member preview last week. It was a jam-packed four hours of entertainment, beginning with the newly refreshed, education-focused, “Orca Encounter,” complete with new music and new video.
